If I am asked to describe a man who has positively impacted my life, my answer is simple: Jesus.
But first, let me say Merry Christmas! This makes my answer easy to share…
Not because it is the expected answer.
But because there is no other honest one.
Jesus is not someone I added to my life. He is the reason my life still has breath. He is the song that carries me when words run out. He is the rhythm that steadies my steps when the road shakes beneath me. He is not a part of my story. He is the story.
So, I hope this makes sense to you… Scripture describes Him better than I ever could, because Scripture does not speak of Him as distant or abstract. It speaks of Him as living, active, and near. (Listen to how the Scriptures describe the man who changes everything!)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
John 1:1, 14
That is Christmas.
God did not send advice. He sent Himself. He stepped into flesh, into time, into suffering, into the weight of the human condition. Jesus did not remain far off. He came close enough to be touched, rejected, betrayed, crucified.
And still He came.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd who does not abandon the wounded sheep.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.”
Psalm 23:1
He is the Light that does not flicker when darkness presses in.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
John 1:5
He is the Bread that sustains when everything else leaves you empty.
“Yes, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again.”
John 6:35
Jesus has impacted my life because He did not only forgive my sin. He gave me life.
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10
That promise is very personal to me. I have known seasons of brokenness, weakness, and fear where my strength was gone. And in those places, Christ did not stand at a distance waiting for me to recover. He carried me. He met me. He sustained me.
Jesus is my peace when my circumstances were anything but peaceful.
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.”
John 14:27
He is my hope when the future felt uncertain.
“Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.”
Colossians 1:27
He is my life because He first laid down His life for me.
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.”
1 John 3:16
Christmas matters because it tells us God did not stay distant. He entered our world so that we could know Him. Not just believe facts about Him. But walk with Him. Be formed by Him. Be made new through Him.
If you are reading this and longing for life, for hope, for peace that does not evaporate when things fall apart, I want you to know this. Jesus is not an idea to be studied. He is a Person to be known.
He has allowed me to write many songs, journals, books, and so much more… not because I have alot to say – I just have a lot to say about Him, Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.
And let me say… He is still calling. He is still near. And He is still the One who changes everything.
